Operation Write Home

Today, while browsing Facebook as the rest of the house slept I ran across a post for Operation Write Home.  It is a site where crafty people make handmade cards for heroes to write home on and AnyHero letters of gratitude.  There is also a section for donations if you are not feeling particularly crafty but still want to contribute.
So, of course, the first thing I think of is making cards with Scarlet.  Myles will help with any pieces that require drool attachment.  ;)  I start to research OWH and what I need to do to make cards.
Now, I have never really made a homemade card before.  I will buy some blank cards and put a few stickers on them but that is pretty much it.  I am not really a card or scrap-booking type of person but none the less I forge on.  Thanks to Pinterest I made a list of what I will need:
  • Blank Cards
  • Markers
  • Stamps
  • Stickers
  • Scrapbooking paper
  •  Glue
  • Odds and Ends
Several hours later a few cards are presentable and sent to be mailed off.  I can't get the camera to work today so you will have to imagine how amazing they look.

If you are interested in OWH you can find out more about them here:

As always, thanks for Walking the Scarlet Myle with me.

Stuffed Animals

Today I was picking up all of the stuffed animals around the house and I had an Epiphany.  Scarlet has way too many stuffed animals!  I counted almost 100 just picking them up.  So I decided that we needed a better option for storing all of her best friends.  This is what I came up with.
Surprisingly, these are pretty simple.  All you need are some dowels, cup hooks, a drill, and some ribbon.

      And of course...Stuffed Animals!
It sure doesn't hurt to have an eager helper as well.  :)

Take your dowels and drill holes at random places to later screw in your cup hook.  Where you put your hole and how many holes you drill will depend on how many stuffed animals you have to hang.  Once you drill all your holes screw in your hooks.  Tie a ribbon around the neck of all your animals and hang them on the hooks.  Hang the whole thing from a good spot on the ceiling and enjoy your new found space in the toy box.
I ended up making 3 total and hung 1 downstairs and 2 in her room.  Scarlet loves them since she can see all of her toys at the same time and I love them since I have so much space now.

Welcome to Walking the Scarlet Myle

Welcome to Walking the Scarlet Myle.  This blog is inspired by my two wonderful children, Scarlet and Myles.  February 2011 I was blessed with my amazing daughter and May 2013 I was blessed again with my outstanding son.  It is not always fun and games and it sure can be stressful but the good days outnumber the hard ones 1 to 1000.
I have found that life can be simplified by planning activities and organization.  You will find both in this blog.  I will post ideas and activities that we do and organization ideas that work for our family.  Once in a while you will see posts about dinners that are easy and delicious.
I hope this blog will be as fun for you to read as it is for me to document.  Remember, the days go by fast so take advantage of all the time with your children that you can.  You will shape their future.
