Cleaning the Oven

My adventure in cleaning the oven:

While going to make dinner last night I realized how very dirty our oven was.  Being the good housewife I am I went to the store and bought some oven cleaner.  Little did I know I also needed a heaping vat of elbow grease.

I started with a very messy oven:

 And some cleaning supplies:

Following the directions very carefully since this is a fairly new oven I sprayed an even coat over all surfaces and closed the door.  I set the timer for 2 hours and in that time I cleaned the bathrooms and even deep cleaned the shower and grout.

2 hours later:
The foam seemed to be doing the job.  Once I got all the foam off there was still a film and some grime left over so I got to scrubbing.  It took another 1.5 hours for me to finally be happy with how clean the oven was.

Here are the results:
Not bad.

My arms are so sore they feel like they are going to fall off and I had to finally light a candle because the cleaner was so stinky but I have a nice clean oven.  I say it was 3.5 hours well spent.  Maybe next time I will use the self cleaning option if I am not so chicken about burning my house down.

Till next time my friends...

Breakfast Smoothies

This morning while debating the egg or pancake question once again I decided enough was enough.  There are only so many ways to make eggs and pancakes egg...citing.  This morning was going to be different.  Smoothies for breakfast.  So I grabbed the oj and the yogurt and started filtering through the fridge.  I decided on an avocado, some frozen fruit, coconut oil, and the oj and yogurt.  Threw it all in a blender and viola!  It was a huge hit.  I threw a couple of raw eggs in mine.  No raw eggs for Scarlet.  Now I know some of you are going to protest the raw eggs but they are pasteurized and if you are worried about them feel free to leave them out.  Anything can go in a smoothie.  At this point, since they were such a big hit, I am going to expand my smoothie knowledge and branch out.  I will post some of the favorite recipes here once Scarlet decides what passes the 2 year old test.
